Review of Matthew Aasen’s latest single ‘Flickerin’

15 year old producer, singer/songwriter Matthew Aasen’s single ‘Flickerin’ brings a modern take on vintage pop/rock.

“My favorite part about making music is getting to be freely creative in my own way,” says the multi-instrumentalist from Loudoun County, Virginia.

“The creativity expressed in making a song from scratch is, in my opinion, unmatched in any other field. In terms of goals, I really want to perform regularly in front of an audience (once Covid restrictions allow this to happen in a normal fashion).”

Additionally, Aasen writes and produces modern alternative rok with a band called Ache Harvest.

“My music’s genre tends to vary frequently, my recent solo release ‘Flickerin’ is vintage pop-rock.”

The smooth vocals from Aasen on the track, along with its calm yet emotional guitar and instrumental draw comparison to a combination of Plain White T’s ‘Hey There Delilah’ and George Ezra’s ‘Budapest’.

“Some major influences for my music are John Mayer, Depeche Mode, and Brockhampton however my original music usually sounds like none of these artists. My sound is typically similar to songs that inspired me in the moment of the making of the song so it’s hard to define.”

Currently, Aasen is working on a new single which he describes as “alternative pop”. His single, ‘Flickerin’ is available now on all streaming platforms. Connect with him on his Instagram page @matthewaasenmusic!
